Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fighter's Turn Around With Marc Pro
Recently, we received an email from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete, Alan “Gumby” Marques, sharing his personal experience with the Marc Pro Plus. Alan has been involved in the Martial Arts world for nearly 17 years. He owns the well-respected brand On The Mat, Built to Fight product warehouse, and Heroes Martial Arts in San Jose, CA where he works with a world class team, which includes names like Jason Khalipa. His story is so amazing we had to share it.
“I’d like to send you an unsolicited testimony, which I rarely if ever do, for the Marc Pro Plus unit. I think this really has extended my career.
One of things I have had to deal with over the last two years is severe back pain. Back pain for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu players is a pretty common occurrence actually, and although I have taken my share of wear and tear over the 20 years I have trained; I have actually been fairly lucky compared to many of my contemporaries. I am still on the mat pretty much every day as an instructor, but a tightness in my lower back put my competitive career (which actually moved unto the Masters divisions) on hold for the last two years. I have gone through a ton of rehab, have an excellent chiropractor, used a tens unit and pretty much have done everything I could think of to alleviate the pain and tightness which would range from minor discomfort to debilitating at times. This was not only affecting my ability to train and sometimes teach, but it was affecting the quality of my life off the mat as well.
About two months ago, one of my students (who happens to be an ER doctor) suggested I try the Marc Pro machine and was willing to loan me his. As glowing of a review as he had given it, I was a bit skeptical myself because I had tried everything I could and had basically consigned myself to the fact I would have to live with this the rest of my life. But figuring I had nothing to lose, I took the unit and began to use it on a very regular basis on my lower back for about 30 minutes per day, incorporating it into my daily rehab process.
The results were not instantaneous. It took me a week of using the unit until I realized that the Low setting was actually more effecting for my needs (I do have it turned all the way up to 9.0). Little by little it started to feel better however, and gradually combined with my rehab I found I went from less and less pain to no pain and becoming more functional. Two months into using this unit (and continuing rehab) and today for the first time in a while I can say I feel great, I can train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at a pace I haven’t been able to in quite some time without residual effects and actually, finally have been able to focus on strength training that doesn’t involve rehab. Schedule permitting I should be able to compete again in 2016, but the fact I can be on the mats with my students and training with such intensity and regularity is something I wasn’t sure I was ever going to get to again. I definitely believe that the Marc Pro Unit was a big contributor to that fact.
I am happy to let other people know of my results with the Marc Pro Unit as well, because I am certain it can help a lot of people within Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.”
