1. Wheat Germ
While this trendy food is not gluten-free, it is high in fiber and is an easy way to add more of this nutrient to oatmeal or salads. Wheat germ is the most inner-layer of wheat.
2. Spirulina
This popular food item comes from dark green algae. It is high in protein, which is essential for muscle recovery, In addition, spirulina is full of antioxidants and iron. However, it may not be worth the cost if you are not a vegan as you can gain similar nutrients from meat-based sources.
3. Quinoa
This seed is a tremendous protein source and contains all nine essential acids while also containing fiber and iron. Quinoa can be added to a variety of food items, from salads to oatmeal, even dessert.
4. Flaxseed
For an easy way to add fiber, fatty acids, and protein into your smoothies or baked items, consider including flaxseed. Flaxseed is relatively flavorless, so you can add it to multiple foods without worrying about the impact of an extra ingredient.
5. Agave
This syrup has been quite trendy lately, and for good reason. Agave has a low glycemic index value, which in-turn, means that your blood sugar will not spike when using it (as compared to table sugar). In addition, you can use a considerable amount less to achieve the same sweetness as you would with table sugar.
6. Heirloom Tomatoes
These tomatoes, along with all tomatoes, are a great source of vitamin A, which can promote eye and bone health. Plus, these tomatoes come in a wide variety of colors to add some visual pop to any dish.
